ICE Institute held an audience with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), Togar Mangihut Simatupang, to strengthen its role in supporting Indonesia’s higher education transformation agenda. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Development, the Center for Higher Education Funding and Assessment, as well as the Directorate for Talent Development and the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs.

During the meeting, ICE Institute presented its progress and institutional achievements over the past four years, highlighting its role in strengthening Indonesia’s cross-university digital learning platform. ICE Institute reaffirmed its commitment to supporting strategic programs of the Directorate General of Higher Education, particularly the initiative to enhance the skills and competencies of 10,000 lecturers through online learning.

ICE Institute also introduced key strategic initiatives, including the development of a National Credit Bank portal as a national academic credit recording system. This initiative is expected to enhance student mobility across universities and support greater flexibility in higher education.

In addition, ICE Institute is developing a Pre-University program designed to prepare prospective students with foundational academic knowledge prior to entering higher education through digital learning approaches.

The discussion also covered support for the Just Transition program supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), particularly in advancing research-based and sustainability-oriented learning. ICE Institute further outlined plans to develop a policy brief on microcredential implementation to support more adaptive higher education policies aligned with industry needs and technological advancement.

From a policy perspective, the Secretary General of Kemdiktisaintek expressed interest in developing an appreciation mechanism for lecturers teaching on the ICE Institute platform, recognizing their contribution to Indonesia’s digital education ecosystem.

Kemdiktisaintek also expressed support for ICE Institute’s active participation in the ASEAN-China Digital Education Alliance as part of efforts to strengthen international higher education collaboration.

ICE Institute continues to position itself as a national online learning platform evolving into a global digital education ecosystem. Initially established in 2017 by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, and later mandated to Universitas Terbuka in 2019, ICE Institute has continuously expanded its role in supporting Indonesia’s higher education transformation.

This audience reinforces the shared commitment between ICE Institute and Kemdiktisaintek to accelerate a more inclusive, flexible, and sustainable higher education transformation through digital innovation.
