Global Tourism Development Trends is organized into 5 weeks. Each week a new chapter will be covered. Globally tourism has been one of the fastest growing industries, contributing more than 10% of the global GDP. Every one out of the 11 jobs was created by the travel and tourism industry (WTTC, 2016). In this course, you will learn global tourism development since the end of World War II in 1945; Tourism development in China since its Open Door Policy in 1978; China’s Belt and Road Initiative and its implications for the global tourism industry; the sustainability of tourism development, and some current issues, like medical tourism, smart tourism and perception of risk and travel decision. This course is taught by Professor Hanqin Qiu, leading professors and industry leaders in their respective field. This course is also contributed to by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) in Macau, Zhejiang University and Chiang Mai University in Thailand.
Hanqin QIU
Professor Hanqin QIU is the Dean and Distinguished Professor of international tourism at Zhejiang University City College. She was a tenured Professor and served for more than 25 years in the school of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University before she joined the College of Tourism and Service Management at the Nankai University in 2018. She received her BA from Nankai University in Mainland China, her MA from University of Waterloo in Canada, and her PhD from University of Strathclyde in UK. for more than . Her research interests are tourism studies, tourist behavior, and China hotel and tourism development and policy issues. Over her 26 years of academic career in Canada, Hong Kong, USA, and China, she has published more than 100 research articles in leading international journals.

Dr. JiayingLyu
Dr. JiayingLyu is an Associate Professor in Tourism Management who is known for her research and publications on leisure and tourism. She has also been involved in a range of research involving leisure travel behavior of the elderly, tourism innovation based on mobile internet, non-profit organizations and protected area governance.
Professor Lyu started her academic career with the Zhejiang University in 2011. Her current position is Deputy Director of the College of International Culture and Tourism in Zhejiang University City College.

Asif Khan
Mr. Asif Khan is the head of Tourism and Hospitality, who is known for his efforts in the establishment of tourism and hospitality programmers at degree level in Pakistan. His research area is tourism and wellbeing. He is the National Expert of NAVTTC Prime Minister Secretariat, Islamabad, Pakistan. He is the secretary of tourism’s curriculum development of Higher Education Commission, Islamabad, Pakistan. Mr. Khan started his academic career with Hazara University in 2008.
