About This Course
This course is designed for non-native English speaking medical students, medical professionals and basically anyone who are interested in improving their communicative skills in medical English.
This course covers the following topics: the Hippocratic Oath, doctors’ rights in patient treatment, ethical dilemmas and policy choices of organ transplantation, autistic spectrum disorder, ethical issues in the use of animals in biomedical research, altruism and payment in blood donation, and the benefits and risks of genetically modified food.
Through analyzing and learning authentic texts about these essential medical topics, the medical students should be able to
Ø expand their medical vocabulary;
Ø hone their reading, writing and translating skills;
Ø understand the ethical dilemmas of some debatable issues in medicine;
Ø develop their critical thinking around these crucial issues;
Ø share scientific information and their perspectives in the international community;
Ø raise their intercultural awareness and competence.
