About This Course

《Draping for Fashion Design》introduces fashion design students to the basic principles and techniques of draping in fabric as a means to creatively interpret and develop contemporary designs. Emphasis on proportion, balance and shape as relate to design aesthetics broadens students’understanding for actualizing and realizing three-dimensional design prototypes through manipulating muslin and soft fabrications. Introduction to basic patterns, collars, bodice and skirt variations are included. The variations in style expand students’ creative, critical thinking, and technical skills.

Course Staff

Qiaoying WU

Female, Ph.D, professor, master’s supervisor, outstanding teacher of zhejiang province. She is the lecturer in charge of “garment draping”, an excellent online course of Zhejiang. She is also the chief editor of “garment draping”, a national planning textbook for the 12th five-year plan. From November 2000 to June 2001, she studied garment draping and Flat Pattern Making in New York Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), state university of New York. She won the first prize in university's lecture competition.

Ye TU

Female, master, full-time teacher in the department of fashion design and engineering, school of international education, zhejiang university of science and technology. She graduated from the fashion department of zhejiang silk institute of technology in 1996, engaged in pattern making in garment enterprise, served as the director of technical department for several years before back to school to teach. From August 2004 to January 2005, she studied garment draping and Flat Pattern Making in FIT. She is an expert in pattern design and garment technology development. She won the third prize in 10th university's lecture competition.

Yuan KONG

Female, master, full-time teacher in the department of fashion design and engineering, school of international education, zhejiang university of science and technology. She graduated from the fashion department of zhejiang silk institute of technology in 1992, engaged in garment production technology management in garment enterprises for more than 10 years. In 2004, She was admitted to zhejiang university of science and technology as a postgraduate and stayed on as a teacher after graduation. In 2012, she studied garment draping and Flat Pattern Making in FIT. She is an expert in garment technology and management.
