About This Course

The course "Historic Building Protection Design" is a comprehensive course set up by the architecture major to deal with the increasingly severe problems of architectural and cultural heritage protection in the world. It consists of theoretical knowledge and design practice.

The first four chapters mainly focus on theoretical teaching, including the concepts and values of historic buildings, the concepts and development of conservation, restoration and reuse, and the related theories and principles of the relationship between historic building and city.

The last two chapters focus on design practice, combining with a large number of cases of domestic and foreign historic building protection and reuse design, and introducing different protection and reuse strategies. At last, the drawing expressions of historic building protection and reuse plan is explained in detail with specific cases.

With the study of this course, students can understand the basic forms of historic buildings and their protection design characteristics. With the further study of historic building reuse, students are expected to find practical methods for the protection and utilization of historic buildings.

The course concentrates on the main points. With case analysis students can understand intuitively the methods and key points of historic building protection design. With the investigation of protection and reuse scheme design and then with written reports by students, the course contents are effectively consolidated and absorbed, which is helpful for students in their graduation project and future work design. The course might be difficult, needing comprehensive architectural theories and design knowledge, and good design skills.

Li Wei

Li Wei, was awarded the titles of “Backbone Teacher” and “Excellent Teacher” by Shenyang University of Technology. She is a national first-class Registered Architect. She won the First Prize in the First Ordinary University Teachers Teaching Competition of Liaoning Province. Her course "Special Design for the Protection of Historic Buildings" was awarded the Third Prize in the first National College Teachers' Teaching Innovation Competition. She is one participant in the Second Prize of Provincial Teaching Achievement and two First Prizes of Undergraduate Teaching Achievement. She won the Second Prize of Teaching Achievements of Shenyang University of Technology. She is mainly engaged in historic building protection and utilization, materials and disease investigation technology research.

Li Tianxin

Li Tianxin, Professor, was awarded the title of “Famous Teacher” and “Pedagogical Leader” by Shenyang University of Technology. She is the leader teacher of the provincial-level first-rate undergraduate course “Introduction to English Lexicology” and the school-level first-class undergraduate course “Professional English (Civil Engineering)”. She presided over one project of industry-university cooperation of the Ministry of Education, and 6 provincial-level teaching reform projects. She edited many textbooks such as Comprehensive Academic English and College English Extensive Reading. She won First Prize of FLTRP Star Teacher Contest National Final, First Prize of Excellent Cases of Mixed Teaching Based on MOOCs in the UMOOCS Network Competition and Third Prize in the National Final, First Prize of Teaching Achievement of Shenyang University of Technology, Third Prize of Liaoning Provincial Teaching Achievement, Third Prize of Excellent Academic Achievement Award of Higher Education Research Academy of Liaoning Province, etc.
