Overview
This course is designed for college students who study English as a foreign or second langauge. Non-native English learners off campus may also find this course helpful if they are preparing for a career in internatinal business or simply want to take their English to the next level.
Course Outcome
This course is created for purposes of both business case study and English language study. Upon completing the course, students will be able to:
Learn the basics of frequent business topics, including marketing, international trade, e-commerce, human resource management, business ethics, communication in business, customer service, and competition.
Understand real business activities, the latest successful business philosophy and company values.
Practice skills of English reading, listening, and writing constantly. Be Equipped with relevant business terms and expressions, and be able to use them in the workplace.
Improve critical and creative thinking by participating in situational discussions.
Get inspired by the professors from diverse academic backgrounds, as well as learners from all walks of life in different places.
There are eight units in this course. Each unit is taught by one of the course team with expertise in respective field. The learning pack of EACH unit includes a case reading, an additional in-depth reading, PowerPoint slides, three video lectures, two discussions, and the quiz. At the end of the course, there will be a final exam.

Juan Xie
Juan Xie, Lecturer of English in School of Foreign Languages in Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. 2012-2013 Fulbright Scholar (FLTA). She is in charge of Business English course development and leads the Business English course team. She has won the first prize of Business English Teaching Contest in Sichuan Province in 2018. The students she coached have won the national first prize of Business English Practice Contest in 2018 and 2019.
