Description

The crystal optics is an important course providing students some basic abilities on using microscope and analyzing optical properties of minerals. Students would get some basic knowledge， which is useful to learn the later courses including igneous petrology, metamorphic petrology and sedimentary petrology.

There are many different kinds of minerals in the nature. How do we distinguish and determine their properties? It will be difficult to determine them with naked eyes. However, the optical properties of different minerals are useful tools to help us.  This course is mainly to introduce you the optical properties of minerals under the polarizing microscope. This knowledge is also important basis for examination and detmineration of rocks and minerals. If you want to know what will occur when a ray of light meets the minerals under microscope and to know how to identify the minerals under the microscope, Crystal Optics can give you answers!
