About This Course

Medical molecular biology is a science that studies the life activities and corresponding principles of the human body and disease-related organisms in normal and disease states from the molecular level. The scientific aims of the studies are for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human diseases with the molecular-level technology. As a hotspot in medical-related research, the frontier advances in medical molecular biology play a key role in supporting the scientific research and innovation of graduate students in medical-related fields.

In this field, the exploration of tumorigenesis and development mechanisms, tumor prevention and treatment methods, and correlated research means has an important position. In recent years, tumor research has been changing rapidly. This course focuses on the concepts of epigenetics, cell cycle and cell death with their roles in tumorigenesis and development, tumor prevention and treatment. The related new research progress, scientific research topics and research methods are also involved in the course.

The course references mainly come from the scientific research journals, including <Science>, <Nature>, <Cell>, <The New England Journal of Medicine>, <Cancer Cell>, <The Journal of Clinical Investigation>, <THE LANCET>, <Gastroenterology>, < Gut>, <Cancer Research>, and etc.

Requirements

The students know about the basic knowledge of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Course Staff

Zeng Jiping, Ph.D., associate professor and master tutor of Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shandong University. Dr. Zeng actively participates in teaching reforms such as PBL and comprehensive courses for many years. At the same time, Dr. Zeng focuses on gastric cancer research, who has undertaken three projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and published more than 20 scientific research papers in scientific journals such as <Gastroenterology>, <Journal of Pathology> and <Molecular Cancer>.

Dr. Yuan started his doctoral thesis in the Medical school at the Technische Universität München (TUM) in Munich and successfully graduated 2016 on the field of liver cancer. After his habilitation at the medical faculty of the Shandong University, he received 2018 a “Qilu Youth Scholars” and started his work as a group leader with the research focus on "liver development and diseases". Dr. Yuan and his group investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms that lead to tissue damage, liver niche aberration, cancer and metastasis.

Ping Mi, Assistant research fellow, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shandong University. PhD. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Main interest of study: Effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on zebrafish development and locomotive behavior.
