About This Course

"Approaching the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (bilingual course)" is now On-line at the "China University MOOC" and the "Learning Power" learning platform of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee. There are 20 episodes of online teaching videos. Twenty-one Nobel Prize winners are selected. This course introduces their academic experiences and academic achievements from four aspects: biographies, academic achievements, scientific values, and spiritual characters. It reflects innovation and practicality of study to achieve a combination from the ideological field to scientific knowledge. The content of the course covers the history of the development and major innovations of chemistry in the past 100 years. It brings students with the integration of multidisciplinary thinking, disciplinary theory and application industry, and interdisciplinary scientific research achievements.

Course Staff

The first main instructor--Prof. Wang Xian obtained her Ph.D in Chemistry at University of Ottawa, Canada, and was a Senior Visiting Fellow of State Key Laboratory of Environmental and Biological Analysis at Hong Kong Baptist University.  Now She is PhD supervisor and professor of South-Central University for Nationalities, the vice Director of Key Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry of the State Nationalities Affairs Commission. She has obtained 10 research grants including 3 NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China) grants and other provincial and ministerial projects. She is also the member of Proteome Organization (CNHUPO) Academic Committee; member of China Organic Analysis Academic Committee; member of Chinese Chemical Society Biophysical Metabolism Association; member of Hubei Provincial Chromatography Mass Spectrometry Association. In 2013, she won the third prize of the first national micro-teaching competition and the first prize of Hubei Province. In 2014, she was awarded the Hubei Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund, and in 2018 she was selected into the National Civil Committee Young and Talented Persons Program.

The second main instructor—Prof. Li Lin is the graduate supervisor, at the College of Chemistry and Materials Science, in South Central University for Nationalities. Li Lin graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2005 with PHD degree. From 2013 to 2014, Li Lin worked at the University of Tennessee as a state-sponsored visiting scholar for one year. In 2012, Li Lin won the second prize of Hubei young teachers' lecture competition and the honorary title of "Hubei young teaching expert"; in 2019, she won the Teaching Model of South-Central University for Nationalities. As the project leader, Li Lin presided over several projects such as National Natural Science Foundation of China, Natural Science Foundation of Hubei Province, Teaching and Research Projects of Hubei Province and so on. So far, as the first author or corresponding author, Li Lin has published nearly 40 papers in academic journals, and obtained one national invention patent. As an editorial board member, Li Lin officially published three textbooks.
