About This Course
In this course, you will explore tourism research methods and relevant techniques.
You are able to understand the following topics: the starting point of raising a good research question, information search and paper writing, qualitative versus quantitative approach, research designs, the emerging issues in tourism and hospitality research and research ethics. Each of the above sessions will be offered by me and other leading professors from US, UK, Australia and Macao China, together. We hope to not only bring you the ideas of doing academic research in tourism field, but also to empower you with the ability to solve problems by yourselves.
Whether you are a new learner or someone with professional experiences in tourism industry, this course will be of high relevance to you!

Course Staff
Yujia Chen, Ph.D., Module Leader
Yujia Chen is a postdoctoral fellow at College of Tourism and Service Management, Nankai University, and also the social media editor for Journal of Quality Assurance in Hospitality and Tourism. Her research interests center round services marketing and management, and service innovation in tourism and hospitality industry.
Tingting Liu, Ph.D.
Tingting Liu is an assistant professor at Xiamen University, China. Her research interests cover tourism sociology, qualitative research and tourism consumption.
Daisy Fan, Ph.D.
Daisy Fan is a Senior Lecturer in Tourism and Hospitality at Bournemouth University, UK. Her research interests include social contact, tourist behaviour and social sustainability.
Carson Lewis Jenkins, Ph.D., Professor
Carson Lewis Jenkins is the emeritus professor of international Tourism University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Scotland and Visiting Professor of College of Tourism and Service Management, Nankai University, previously visiting Scholar, School of Professional Education and Executive Development at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Professor Jenkins is the Elected Fellow of International Academy for the Study of Tourism. His research interests are in tourism policy and planning and the role of tourism in development developing countries. He has been the board member in leading international journals.
Scott Mccabe, Ph.D., Professor
Scott Mccabe is a Professor in Marketing and Tourism and has worked at the University of Nottingham since 2007.He is the co-Editor in Chief of Annals of Tourism Research, and an editorial board member on the Journal of Policy Research in Leisure, Tourism and Events, the Annals of Leisure Research, and the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management.
Eve Ren, Ph.D., Professor
Eve Ren is a professor in Macao Institute for Tourism Studies. She is the Academic Coordinator for Tourism Retail and Marketing Management program. She holds a doctorate in Hotel and Tourism Management, which she earned at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She has published many papers in top journals for tourism studies.
Marianna Sigala, Ph.D., Professor
Marianna Sigala is Professor at the University of Piraeus, Greece. She previously hold the position of the Professor of Tourism and the Director of the Centre for Tourism & Leisure Management at the University of South Australia (2015 – 2021). She has also been an academic staff at the University of Strathclyde and Westminster University (UK), and the University of the Aegean (Greece).
