About This Course
Genetic engineering is one of the significant courses in biology related disciplines (bioengineering, biotechnology, bioscience, etc.) and a key subject of life science. It involves both theoretical and experimental knowledge of biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology and some other disciplines. And the course mainly aims to educate the students to understand the significance of genetic engineering, the basic theory, technology and application of genetic engineering operation, and meanwhile to lay a theoretical foundation for future genetic engineering research.
Genetic engineering is an emerging subject of biotechnological science, which was born in 1970s on the basis of the comprehensive development of molecular biology and molecular genetics. The establishment and development of it depend directly on the development and progress of gene and molecular biology, which marks a close and inseparable internal relationship between them. Through the teaching of genetic engineering, we aim to achieve the following objectives: To help students understand the basic concepts and principles of genetic engineering; To enable students to master the main technical principles and applications of genetic operations; To enable students to master the research content and operation process of genetic engineering; To help students master the basic experimental techniques of genetic engineering.
The course mainly includes the basic principles and methods of genetic engineering; The obtaining of target genes; Tool enzymes and vectors of gene cloning; Identification and expression of recombiner; Gene sequencing technology; Application of genomics and genetic engineering.
