About This Course

This course consists of three chapters. Students will get to know ceramics, famous porcelain types in Jingdezhen and the local culture in Jingdezhen. In every episode, there will be a different topic, with useful expressions and dialogues students might use for spoken English. The course will be presented by dialogues. Meanwhile, useful words and phrases of ceramic industry will also be introduced in the course.

In the first chapter, students will get familiar with the glossary involved in the field of ceramics. After learning this course, students will be able to introduce the materials of clay and glaze, as well as the making and firing process. In addition, students will know more about expressions for introducing a piece of porcelain work from various aspects, including shape, decoration, and reign marks. And students will also find out the auspicious meaning of different patterns.

The second chapter sheds its light on the famous types of porcelain in Jingdezhen, namely, Qingbai porcelain, blue and white porcelain, rice-patterned porcelain, rose famillie porcelain, and colored-glazed porcelain. As we all know, Jingdezhen has a history of porcelain making for over 1700 years. It shoulders a new mission in the new era, which is to build a national ceramic culture inheritance and innovation pilot zone.

The last chapter will relate to Jingdezhen with its local culture. For example, to talk about the relationship between ceramics and tea culture; ceramics and food culture as well as Linong culture. This part aims to present you with a vivid Jingdezhen with new insights.

Hopefully, the course will be helpful for students to know more about Jingdezhen and its ceramic culture.
