Dear students,
Welcome to " Wisdom of Life from Confucius" and thank you for your choice.
The Analects of Confucius is an important classic of the Chinese nation, and Confucius is the teacher of the Chinese people all over the world. However, for most people nowadays, Confucius, the protagonist in The Analects of Confucius, is at once familiar and strange. Professor Liu Dongying, the lecturer, has studied Confucian culture intensively for many years. She will break through the limitations of The Analects of Confucius, bridge the gap of the lack of logic in quotation prose, and adopt the method of “consistency” to integrate Confucius’thoughts into a systematic interpretation.
The course is not one’s own reading review, but based on The Analects of Confucius, verified by relevant ancient and modern literature, combined with classics and research. It restores a true and rich charm and image of Confucius so that Confucius’ wisdom can guide our living in contemporary time. The course is suitable for all interested in Confucian culture to study. This course consists of 10 units, each of which consists of 3-5 lecture videos and takes one week to complete. This course is released online every Monday at 8:00, with unit test and unit assignment online later.

Liu Dingying

Liu Dingying,Ph.D., professor, doctoral supervisor and postdoctoral cooperative supervisor of Chinese Classical Philology major in Heilongjiang University, also serves as the executive director of Chinese Historical Philology Society, director of Chinese Book of Songs Society, and the vice president of Heilongjiang National Studies Society. Professor Liu has been selected as one of “Top 10 National Outstanding Readers”, one of “New Century Talents Project” by the Ministry of Education, one of 100 excellent social science popularization experts, and has won the honorary title of “Outstanding Teachers of Heilongjiang Province”.
Professor Liu has published 22 monographs such as Eight Lessons on The Book of Songs and How Confucius Was Tempered, etc. and one translation, she has published about 70 academic papers, and has presided over 2 National Social Science Funds and many national scientific research programs, and won 2 first prizes for social science achievements in Heilongjiang Province and about 10 other provincial and ministerial awards.
Professor Liu has offered “the Wisdom of Life from Analects of Confucius” and “Chanting of Chinese Classical Poetry” courses reflecting Chinese excellent traditional culture to several online teaching platforms such as Xuetangx, Icourse163 and Uooc, etc. in the meantime, professor Liu has hosted courses like “Dongying lectures on The Book of Songs” and“Dongying lectures on the Analects of Confucius” at the China National Radio, and she has participated in TV programs at Heilongjiang TV and Anhui TV to promote traditional culture, and gave about 200 public lectures in libraries, universities, factories, prisons and other places all over China.
Professor Liu advocates the chanting of ancient poetry, and new media transmission of classical poetry chanting. The National Art Funds Program she presided over is selected into the special demonstration project of “Respect for Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture” by the Ministry of Education, the project achievement “Open Course of Classical Poetry Chanting”was awarded excellent program of national reading promotion.
Professor Liu’s academic research has had a certain influence internationally, and her works have been translated into Korean and Russian, and been published in traditional Chinese in Hong Kong and Taiwan, the MOOC “Wisdom of Life from Analects of Confucius” (the online name of South Korea is: the Confucius’ Wisdom) she lectured on has been launched on the largest MOOC platform “K-MOOC” in the form of bilingual Chinese and English, facilitating foreign friends and overseas Chinese to learn the Analects of Confucius, and she has been invited to give lectures in Russia to spread the beauty of Chinese classical poetry.
