About This Course
This course combines English-Chinese translation theory with practice and focuses on pragmatic translation (non-literary translation). It starts from the basic theory and concept of applied translation. Then, it also covers the competence and professional ethics of translators, including the ability to inquire about information technology, and the cultivation of translators' professional qualities. It aims to help students establish correct translation concepts and become familiar with the development history of applied translation and its relevant theories. Through the translation case studies and various translation practices, students will be familiar with the translation of various practical styles, and they can develop their ability to analyze and solve problems and adopt various translation strategies and tools proficiently to improve translation quality. The course also integrates revolution-enrichment culture of Jiangxi province, Jingdezhen ceramic culture and the content of transportation engineering translation, showcasing a true, three-dimensional and comprehensive image of China to the world.

XIAO Qun
Ph.D. in English Language and Literature, associate professor, master's supervisor, started teaching at East China Jiaotong University since 1990. Major courses Dr. Xiao teaches include Genre and Translation, Scientific and Technical Translation, Business English, Tourism Culture Translation, Academic English, Postgraduate English, College English. For many consecutive years, she has been awarded as an excellent lecturer of ECJTU, an excellent advisor of the provincial graduation thesis, and has won the provincial and ministerial outstanding teaching achievement award and the provincial social science achievement award for many times. Dr. Xiao has presided over or participated in the completion of more than 10 teaching and research projects at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, published papers, edited or participated in the compilation of many textbooks, and guided students to win dozens of national and provincial awards.
TANG Bin
Ph.D. in English Language and Literature, professor, master’s supervisor, is the Cadre Teacher of young and middle-aged people in Jiangxi Province, and the head of Research Center for Applied Translation of Transportation and Engineering of ECJTU, which is the key research base of humanities and social sciences in colleges and universities in Jiangxi Province. Dr. Tang is also the standing director of the Digital Curriculum Resource Research Branch of the China Higher Education Association, the director of the Committee on Discourse Studies of CACSEC, the president of the Foreign Language Teaching Research Association of Universities in Jiangxi Province, the vice president of Translators’ Association of Jiangxi, and the vice president of Jiangxi Association of Foreign Languages. She has presided over the completion of more than 10 teaching and research projects at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, has presided over and participated in the construction of three provincial-level high-quality courses, has published over 30 academic papers, and has gained a number of provincial outstanding teaching achievement awards and social science outstanding achievement awards.
Chen Qingqing
Ph.D., lecturer at the School of Foreign Languages at ECJTU. She earned her B.A. and M.A. from Northwestern Polytechnical University, and her Ph.D. from Baylor University, with a research focus on TESOL. The major courses Dr. Chen teaches include A Glimpse of Chinese Culture and Scientific English and Writing. She was awarded a full scholarship during her doctoral studies in the U.S. Dr. Chen presented and published papers at international conferences such as TESOL International Convention. In May, 2021, she won the first prize in the 13th SFLEP English Teaching Contest of Jiangxi Province.
Jiang Hao
JIANG Hao, MA, lecturer, has a research focus on translation theory and application. Mr. Jiang’s research areas include English-Chinese translation, translation technology, natural language processing, etc. He participated in a number of national and provincial scientific research projects, and won a prize at the first national MTI translation technology teaching competition. Major courses Mr. Jiang teachers include College English, Translation Technology, Translation Project Management, etc.
SHU Xing
Lecturer at the School of Foreign Languages at ECJTU. She earned a MSc from the University of Edinburgh with a research interest in Applied Linguistics. Major courses Ms. Shu teaches include College English, Introduction to the Society and Culture of English-Speaking Countries, Elementary English, etc. She won the 1st prize at provincial level in the National Foreign Language Micro-Lesson Contest of Higher Education Press for three times, and she was awarded the 2nd prize and 3rd prize in the 4th and 6th National Final Contest respectively. In May, 2021, she won the 1st prize in the Micro-Lesson section in the 13th SFLEP English Teaching Contest of Jiangxi Province.
