About this course

Nursing as a profession has been developed very rapidly, so nursing research has become a major force in the nursing profession to change practice, education, and health policy. Through the nursing research, nurses can refine the existing knowledge, generate new knowledge, and provide nursing clients with evidence-based practice. By doing so, it can promote high quality, cost-effective health care outcomes for patients and families, and other nursing clients. Therefore, It is critically important that all nurses should have an understanding of research and its link to the development of evidence-based practice for nursing.

In this course, the team has shared the basic knowledge, skills, and the experience on nursing research with students. The students will learn how to conduct a nursing research step-by-step. At the end of the course, students will finish one research proposal under the help of the team. This proposal might be implemented in the near future in the realistic world by students.

Liu Yu, Ph.D., RN, is a professor at the School of Nursing (SON) at China Medical University (CMU). She received her doctoral degree from the University of Arizona in 2010. Since 1994, she has been working as a faculty in Peking University School of Nursing until the end of 2017, then she joined the China Medical University School of Nursing. She is the co-editor of the book which was the first edition for graduate nursing students in China. She has been teaching the course of Nursing Research for BSN level and Graduate level for many years. Dr. Liu’s research area is related to gerontological care, especially focused on care for elderly with dementia. She received research funding from the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, Natural Science Foundation of Liaoning Province of China, China Medical Board of New York, American Association of University Women. She has published over 100 articles and book chapters in the area of nursing research and gerontological care.

Liqiang Zheng

Zheng Liqiang, Ph.D., MD, is a professor at Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Public Health. He received his doctoral degree from China Medical University. He is the vice-Director of the Shenjing Hospital Library, and vice-Director of the Department of Health Policy and Hospital Management in the School of Public Health of CMU. He was a visiting scholar in Tulane University from 2016-2017. His major is Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence-based Medicine. He has been teaching the course of Clinical Epidemiology and Statistics for many years. He has participated in the BHS (Bogalusa Heart Study) cohort study. He received research funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of the People’s Republic of China, the National Key Research and Development Program of China (the 13th five year plan), Natural Science Foundation of Liaoning Province of China, and Liaoning science and technology project. He has published 62 articles as first author or corresponding author which include 34 SCI articles.

Sun Fei

He has received funding from federal (e.g., National Institute of Justice) and state governmental agencies (e.g., Michigan Department of Health and Human Services) as well as from non-profit foundations (e.g., Hartford Foundation). One of Dr. Sun’s current projects is testing an adapted intervention called “Sigh Chi Do Health” to improve dementia literacy and brain health among older adults concerned with memory loss. Dr. Sun is interested in cultural diversity in dementia care by working with various Asian American communities in Michigan and Arizona, and rural and remote communities in Michigan. Through his policy fellowship with Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse with the World Health Organization, Dr. Sun assisted with the development of a global toolkit for dementia friendly communities, one of the seven action plans in the WHO Global Public Health Strategy to Dementia. Dr. Sun is the book review co-editor for the Journal of Social Welfare and Sociology and leads their School of Social Work's Gerontological Certificate program.

Wu Zijing

Wu Zijing received her PhD from China Medical University in 2017. She was a visiting scholar at Griffith University from March 2018 to February 2019. She participates in the teaching of undergraduate and graduate students. For master degree program, she teaches 3 courses including Advanced Nursing Research, Evidence-Based Nursing, and Nursing Philosophy and Theoretical Construction. For bachelor degree program, she teaches 3 courses including Nursing Research, Fundamental Nursing and Health Assessment. Her research focuses on cancer nursing and community nursing. She has led 3 research projects, and published more than 10 papers in core journals at home and abroad, including 4 SCI journals.

Cui Ping NI , Department of Community Health Nursing, School of Nursing,China Medical University,Associate Professor. Dr NI is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing of China Medical University. She earned her Bachelor in 2008, her Master in 2011 from Jilin University, and her PhD degree in nursing from Sichuan University in 2015. Subsequently she started teaching as a lecturer in China Medical University. She has experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Advanced Nursing Research,Evidence-based Nursing,Community Health Nursing,Nursing Health Education. She has her research interest in community health nursing and gerontological nursing regarding of studying caring of elderly in the family and nursing home, the survivor’ s processes and recovery after major disasters. Her other research interest is in nursing education. She engaged in the simulation teaching and as a co- investigator, she recently completed a study project which educated nursing students performing home visiting of the patients with chronic. Dr NI has published articles in International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, BMJ Open, Chinese Journal of Nursing, Journal of Nursing Science, etc. She is also awarded two Government Funds about caring of the elderly as the principal investigator.

After graduation, she has been undertaking nursing specialty courses such as Nursing Research, Fundamentals of Nursing, Nursing Introduction and Health Assessment. Xiaolu Ma, Lecturer, PhD. I received my bachelor's degree in nursing from China Medical University in 2004, my master's degree in nursing from China Medical University in 2009, and my doctor's degree in nursing from China Medical University in 2021. From July 2004 to now, I have been teaching in the School of Nursing, China Medical University. Now I am the deputy director of the department of humanistic nursing of the school of nursing. I teach Advanced Nursing Research, Evidence-based Nursing, Philosophy and Theoretical Construction of Nursing, Nursing Education, Nursing Communication and Etiquette and other courses. My main research direction is nursing education and community nursing. I am responsible for 1 provincial-level project, 1 CMB project, 1 university-level project, edited 1 textbook, participated in editing more than 10 textbooks, and published 8 papers as the first author.

Ma Li received the master's degree in 2009 and the undergraduate degree in 2005 from the School of Nursing of China Medical University.She teaches the courses including Nursing Research, Basic Nursing, Health Assessment, Introduction to Nursing, as the head of Nursing Research courses.Her main research directions are nursing education and quality of life research on clinical chronic diseases.The main reseach is the analysis of physical activity influencing factors in lymphoma chemotherapy patients based on the health belief pattern.She edited 1 textbook and participated in the compilation of 4 textbooks and published several papers.
