The course Early Childhood Development and Growth (SPAD4102) introduces students to the essential theories, principles, and practices that shape the holistic development of young children. Designed for educators and professionals working in Playgroups (KB), Kindergartens (TK), and Childcare Centers (TPA), this course emphasizes both scientific understanding and practical application of child development concepts.
Students will explore the biological, cognitive, emotional, social, and moral aspects of child growth, along with the environmental and cultural factors that influence development. By studying developmental theories and observing real-life practices, learners will gain insights into how children think, feel, and interact with their surroundings.
The course is organized into five comprehensive lessons:
Lesson 1 – Fundamental Concepts of Early Childhood Development: Introduction to the meaning, scope, and importance of child development.
Lesson 2 – Domains and Stages of Early Childhood Development: Exploration of developmental areas and milestones from infancy to early childhood.
Lesson 3 – Principles and Practices of Early Childhood Growth: Understanding the guiding principles of developmentally appropriate practices.
Lesson 4 – Factors Influencing Development and Growth: Examination of biological, psychological, and environmental influences on development.
Lesson 5 – Application in Early Childhood Education Practice: Practical integration of developmental theory into effective learning environments.
Through engaging materials, reflective activities, and collaborative learning, students will develop the ability to analyze children’s developmental needs and design meaningful, inclusive, and play-based learning experiences.
By the end of this course, learners are expected to:
