
About The Course
The class is designed to assist students to learn the underlying principles, steps, and necessary rhetorical patterns in writing down a scientific work. Students are informed of the different characteristics of writing popularly and academically, the concept of plagiarism and the steps to avoid it. They will train themselves to do summarizing, paraphrasing, quoting, referencing, citing, and critically reviewing other authors’ ideas. To do so, students are put in several learning groups and expected to cooperate in comprehending the given materials and practicing the techniques of writing academically. Thus, students should be familiar with writing academically and able to produce qualified critical review and academic articles.

By the end of the course, students are expected to have the ability to:
- Describe the difference between popular and academic writings
- Describe the principles and characteristics of academic writing
- Identify and describe the acts of plagiarism in writings
- Appropriately use techniques of summarizing, paraphrasing, quoting, referencing, citing, and critically reviewing other author’s ideas/writings
- Choosing and consistently using a particular citation style (MLA or APA) in their writing
- Organize a peer-review group
- Produce a critical review of a good quality on undergraduate theses
- Produce a qualified academic writing that may be proposed in national or international essay competition.
