Our Names are James Farlow Mendrofa and Ikhaputri Widiantini. We are going to be your main instructor for this class.
Just a brief about James, I am a Philosophy Lecturer in University of Indonesia. My Expertise is on Anthrophilosophy, Ethics, and Existentialism.
and a brief about Ikhaputri, I am a Philosophy Lecturer in University of Indonesia also. My Expertise is on Feminism, Aesthetics, Philosophy of Art, and Existentialism.
We are so happy to share about one of our expertise with all of you in this class all through the sections.

This Course is about Existentialism and popular culture. As we know existentialism became a very wide-known school of thought and movement on the 20th Century. The movement and thought of existentialism has infiltrated the popular culture widely, whether through popular songs, literature and even the film production. This course will try to elaborate on both theoretical side of existentialism, and also the impact of it in our days popular culture.
What we are going to achieve in these (overall) 10 sections courses are:
1. Understanding on the Existentialism as school of thought and movements.
2. Getting the information on prominent existentialist/s.
3. Existential themes and its impact on the popular culture.
4. Analyzing popular culture products through existentialism lenses
This course is using English as the instruction language. Advanced Basic to Early Intermediate English is totally acceptable.
The participants will go through this course in self-pace mode of 10 sections in total, nonetheless it is a non-credit course.
The participants do not need any pre-requisite course to enter this course. This course is open in MOOCs publicly for those who consider themselves as a philosophy enthusiast, but also for any of you who are interested in Existentialism and Popular Culture.
We are totally committed to fight against any form of plagiarism in this course. So that's why all sources that you are going to go through in all sections are for educational purpose only. Please refrain yourself for quoting any source in this course if you do not have the intention to put the original author or sources, we simply prohibit that.
In each section of this course you will find simple quiz that you need to work on.
The quizzes are the main assessment components for this course. There are 8 of them.
The completion of activities in each section are also going to be the assessment factor of this course.
Just make sure you go through every section thoroughly, okay?! :)
If you complete all of those assessment components, then the minimum passing grades for this course is 55 out of 100, don't be to worry, you are going to make it!
In every section you are going to find a introduction video and some trigger questions that are going to guide you on what to do in that particular section, what we call as The Prelude Unit.
Basically after that Prelude Unit, you will find some of the selected materials, those materials can be found in a form of reading materials or video materials.
After completing in exploring the materials, you will find quiz, to re-check your understanding on the materials or the topic itself.
And then finally you will have discussion forum in every section, to share your take, or your idea, or just to socialize, since this is the only part where we can interact with one another, here in this platform. :p
